For you anti-religious sentiments are rational ("proven" by science, scholarship, etc.) But when it comnes to emotional experiences, such as the birth of your son, then you can feel tied to Jewishness. While there is precedent to feel Jewish on an irrational level -- we strive to transcend the limits of our own da'as on Purim -- that does not mean that the sum total of the religion can be reduced to the emotional high achieved by an NCSY Shabbaton or the celebration of family values that some claim to find in a kitchen-centered Judaism. There is much to the sichliyos of Torah.
