Just saw on the top of another website/blog an ad which reads “When people think
Louis Armstrong was the first man to walk on the moon, there’s not enough art in our schools.” I wonder if the foundation which paid for this ad and advocates increased funding for the arts considered that if kids really think Louis Armstrong was the first man on the moon, we should perhaps be spending more on science education? Talk about undermining your own message…
When people are ignorant about important facts in general, there aren't enough facts in our schools.
ReplyDeletePeople will always be ignorant about facts because the # of facts 'out there' vastly exceeds what can be taught in any school - the question becomes how to prioritize.
ReplyDeleteI knew a kid who thought that Thurgood Marshall played for the Jets (that was Leonard Marshall). This was in a Jewish school, and it was senior year.
ReplyDeleteAdderabbi, come on, v'hi hanosenes - why would a yeshiva kid know anything about Brown vs. Board of Ed? OTOH, the NY Jets are a different story!
ReplyDeleteIt's our values, we value MONEY and all things that lead to it,so unless I am becoming a History Proffesor why should I care about Napoleon. We learnt for the sake of knowldge a lost art.
ReplyDeleteVery amusing indeed.
